Wildlife
Mixes
I believe most of us like to see wildlife, whether it is birds or other types of animals. We have over the years seen what a lot of these animals like and don’t like. Sometimes they even beat us to the harvest.
We have come up with some plant mixes that we have seen from past experience tend to draw in animals.
Whether you need a substitute for them to eat so they don’t eat the plants you are trying to save or you want to be able to feed and watch them, we have some fine blends of seed for you. We tried to choose seeds that should not make problems for you that are good for the soils and are not going to be problems as far as being a weed down the road.
For planting small areas you can use our wildflower recommendation for planting guidelines.
If you have a larger project, you can try using our pasture procedure for successful planting.
Deer Mix
The buckwheat and oat mix makes a good draw in for deer. This is an annual mix and is very easy to grow. The deer tend to come in and browse on plantings like this and almost move in for their second home. Please see this product in our catalog for further information.
Birds
For bird habitat pick almost any flower mix and you will draw all kinds of birds. Whether you like hummingbirds or sparrow or doves, they will be drawn to these plants from the time they start to bloom until they set seed and die. A lot of these birds just love the seed they produce for feed.
The 3B mix is an excellent for drawing in the birds such as humming birds, butterflies, or bees. It a great way to enhance the beauty of your yard with nature. It doesn’t always take natives to let the natives enjoy!
One of the reasons you have to re-seed with wildflowers every year is because of the fact that the birds tend to eat the seeds off of the flowers once they set seed. So as you can see you can make a giant feeder out of your back yard real easy. When you plant one of these flower mixes you just made your backyard a giant bird feeder in the fall when these plants set seed. For further information on other products please see our catalog.
