Hello-
Now is the time to be thinking of fertilizing your yard with a balanced fertilizer. Make sure to keep leaves raked up off your lawn or you will soon have dead spots all over. Also, there is no better time to reseed your lawn than now here in the Northwest because of the rain and somewhat warm weather still. Just throw out the seed and let it go on its own- no sprinklers needed this time of year!
Please
look through our catalog and look at the descriptions of the flowers. Several
flower seeds can be fall planted as well as spring planted. . Check out our
‘Early Bird Mix’, which contains flowers that can be fall planted. If you
plant these seeds in the fall then you will have early spring blooms. Plant
another mix or the same mix in the same area in the spring for a little later
spring bloom and then the same at the beginning of the summer for some more
blooms later on so you have continued color. Just make sure while you are doing
this your flowers have enough water for the new seeds to get a start.
Some
of the larger garden shows we will be attending this coming spring are the
following:
Portland
Yard Garden and Patio Show at the Oregon Convention Center
(One of the largest garden shows in the U.S.) Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle,
WA
If you are near Seattle or would like to take a weekend or two days to go have some fun and get some ideas if you enjoy gardening the NW Flower and Garden Show is a big show for our area. There web site is: http://www.gardenshow.com/nw/ – for more details. The tickets are kind of expensive but you may be able to find discount coupons if you start planning ahead. Also, some hotels offer free tickets with a nights stay so you might check out those packages. (Right now they have their 2002 information still up but I would mark your calendar and remember the dates if you are interested in attending).
Now
would be the time to start thinking of ground covers and erosion controls to
help with the fall and winter weather ahead.
